The 62-year-old pop star shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post, in which she apologized to her ““amazing fans.”

“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I have to share an update on my recent injuries. In order to continue, I have received targeted injections that will provide temporary relief, but the demands of a full tour are a whole other story,” she wrote.

“After multiple consultations with my doctors and exploring all available options, I have been informed that one of my injuries will require minor surgery followed by a 6-8 week recovery period and as a result I will not be able to continue with the Straight Up! To Canada Tour as well as the shows in Alaska and North Dakota.”

After Abdul performed in Toronto last month with New Kids on the Block, she said the cancellation of her Canadian solo tour ““This really breaks my heart.”

“I want to express my deepest apologies to all my amazing fans in Canada and the US, you mean the world to me and this truly breaks my heart,” Abdul wrote. “I was looking forward to the energy, love and bond we always share when we are together.”

Though the Grammy winner advised ticket buyers to seek refunds, Abdul promised she would not be sidelined for too long and told fans she would be back on stage as soon as possible.

“I will come back stronger and better, I will dance with all my heart and perform for all of you very soon, to give you the show you deserve,” she said.

Abdul was scheduled to perform in 21 Canadian cities, starting in Victoria, BC, later this month. Her trek was to end in Sydney, NS, on October 26.

Abdul began her career in the 1980s as a choreographer and famed cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers, and in 1988, she transitioned into music with the release of her debut album. She also served as one of the first judges American Idol and appeared on So you think you can dance and the American version The X Factor.

Last year Abdul accused Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe on sexual assault.

In a lawsuit filed in December 2023, Abdul alleged that Lythgoe, 75, sexually assaulted her twice while she was serving as a judge in both cases. Idol AND So you think you can dance.

Lythgoe said in a statement that he was “shocked and saddened” to hear the accusations made by Abdul, whom he considered a “dear” and “completely platonic” friend.

“While Paula’s history of erratic behavior is well-known, I cannot pretend to understand exactly why she would file a lawsuit that she must know is untrue,” Lythgoe said in a statement. “But I can promise you that I will fight this disgusting slander with all my strength.”

In his lawsuit Abdul said she kept quiet about the alleged assaults for years because she feared retaliation from “one of the most high-profile producers in television entertainment.”
