Fairfield County – Fatal single-vehicle crash kills Lancaster man

The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred Thursday afternoon. At approximately 2:58 p.m., a single-vehicle crash occurred on Ohio Route 188 near milepost 11 in Hocking Township, Fairfield County.

According to reports, 41-year-old Avon JG Stokes of Lancaster was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Ohio 188 when he failed to negotiate a curve. Stokes overcorrected, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Hocking Parish Fire Department, Berne Parish Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office participated in the relief effort.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
