Four certainties for Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn

The SEN.com.au team is back once again to give you an insight into how each game will play out over the weekend.

Calling something a “certainty” in any sport is fraught with great danger.

But we’ll try to find some anyway.

Here’s what we think is certain for the elimination match between Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn.

Western Bulldogs

Liberatore 20+ disposal

Is there any player better prepared to play in the finals than Tom Liberatore?

The central midfielder loves competition and will have the opportunity to touch the ball 20 times in Friday’s grand final against the Hawks.

Liberatore has 20 touches in 13 of his last 14 games. He also had 20 touches and nine interceptions when the teams last met in Round 8.

It should cross that line again on Friday.

Darcy kicks a goal

Hawthorn’s only weakness may be their lack of true tall players in defence, and the one player who can best exploit this is Sam Darcy.

The 208cm youngster will have favourable conditions at his disposal all evening and even if the conditions are not ideal, he should have a chance to score goals.

Darcy has scored in each of his last seven matches and has scored nine goals in his last two appearances.

You would expect him to score one goal at the MCG on Friday night.

Hawthorn

Jai Newcombe 20+ disposals

Jai Newcombe is averaging 24 snaps this season and has 20 or more in his last six games.

Newcombe has also been in fine form, having recorded 30 or more disposals in three of his last four games.

Newcombe is averaging 28.3 plays in his last three games against the Bulldogs.

The aggressive midfielder is poised to make a big impact for the Hawks in their crucial elimination game against the Bulldogs on Friday night.

We expect him to have over 20 disposals.

Mabior Chol 2+ goals

Mabior Chol was a driving force in the Hawthorn attacking line and his signing played a key role in the team’s transformation.

This season, Chol has scored 36 goals and is averaging 1.7 goals per match.

In the last 10 matches, Chol scored as many as 20 goals.

Chol has scored a number of goals in 13 games this season and is ready to put in a strong performance in the final, something he failed to do during his time at Richmond.

With the rise of Calsher Dear and the form of Jack Gunston, the trio are likely to have a big impact on the outcome of the game, with Chol having been the consistent goal scorer and kicker for Hawthorn this season.
