Lancaster man killed in single-vehicle crash on Ohio 188 in Hocking Twp

LANCASTER – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lancaster Post, is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 2:58 p.m. Thursday on Ohio State Route 188 near milepost 11 in Hocking Township, Fairfield County.

Avon J. G. Stokes, 41, of Lancaster, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Stokes was traveling west on Ohio 188 when he failed to negotiate a curve. He then overcorrected, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by members of the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Hocking Parish Fire Department, Berne Parish Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.

The crash is still under investigation.
