Local hero Thanasi Kokkinakis is the first player to commit to playing for the Adelaide International in 2025.

That came just after the 28-year-old claimed his biggest Grand Slam victory at the US Open, where he defeated world No. 11 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round.

“The Adelaide International is a world-class event and we look forward to another edition of international tennis at The Drive,” said tournament director Alicia Molik.

“We are delighted to confirm Thanasi Kokknakis as our first player for 2025. Thanasi is beloved by the fans in South Australia and enjoys playing in his home tournament during the Australian summer.”

Tickets for South Australia’s premier international tennis event, which will take place at The Drive from 6-11 January 2025, are now on sale.

“Adelaide International provides every young South Australian with the opportunity to see world-class tennis idols on their home turf and be inspired to pick up a racket and play tennis,” Molik said.

“Tickets are on sale now. Prices start at just $10, and kids get in for free at select sessions.”

Minister for Tourism, the Hon Zoe Bettison, said South Australia’s busy events calendar for 2025 begins once again with one of the city’s most popular events.

“The Adelaide International offers tennis fans and event attendees not only an epic tennis competition but also a true testament to why South Australia is renowned for hosting world-class events,” Bettison said.

“A star-studded line-up have started the season with a bang, with club favourite Thanasi Kokkinakis now in the squad – we know he’ll make a splash with his strong Australian fan base.”

“Players and fans alike continue to tell us that The Drive creates a unique atmosphere and experience. I can’t wait for thousands of fans to come back to the city in January to enjoy some tennis action.”

Czech Jiri Lehecka and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko were crowned men’s and women’s singles champions at the 2024 tournament.

Kokkinakis enjoyed a memorable triumph at the 2022 Adelaide International, claiming his maiden ATP Tour singles title.
