Ashby’s mother, Em Carver, is preparing for her first London Fashion Week appearance

An Ashby mum who is preparing to walk London Fashion Week later this month and appear on a Times Square billboard is hoping to inspire other mothers to “never say never”.

Em Carver said the opportunity to model for Fiji-based fashion brand Fierce and Flawless Couture came naturally and she was able to walk at the iconic fashion event at the London Stadium on September 14.

“I was really lucky to secure a spot and be offered modeling opportunities at all the fashion weeks,” Carver said.

Your local newspaper, whenever you want it.

“We have New York, London, Milan, Paris and Tokyo, but since I’m studying at university I could only accept one, so I chose London.”

Originally from England, Carver has been modeling and performing since she was a teenager. She studied performing arts before moving to England 16 years ago.

The mother of one is also a foster carer for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. She took a long break from her passion for performing arts, moving to Perth and working in accountancy before focusing on raising her family.

However, in 2020, Carver found a long-forgotten passion for beauty pageants, modeling, and theater, which led to a performance in the musical My Fair Lady at the Regal Theatre in 2022.

She said being able to walk the runway at London Fashion Week and appear on a billboard in Times Square at the age of 42 were moments of pride for her.

“I’m really excited. Because I’m a mom, this isn’t something a regular mom can do,” she said.

“Of course I’m a bit older, so we would usually associate a model with someone quite young.

“As I turn 40, I will definitely look back on it because I am really proud that I was able to realize this dream after all these years.”

The Times Square billboard is also set to bring a touch of Perth to the iconic New York hub. The billboard features the artist’s Fierce and Flawless Couture shoot, which was done last month at Gwelup Secret Garden.

An Ashby mother is combining her passion for performing arts with her university studies in marine biology.

Carver, who is currently in her first year of college, said she and her 10-year-old son love the ocean and saving the environment, and she hopes her degree will help them pursue their passions together.

“My son Buddy wants to be a marine biologist when he grows up and started an organization called Eco-Spark that teaches kids how to care for the environment, so a degree in marine biology will help us both on that journey,” she said.
