Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on State Highway 2, off the southern exit ramp from the Auckland to Tauranga motorway.

Hato Hone St John said they were called to the crash, which happened near Dobson Rd, between Pokeno and Mangatawhiri, just after 10am on Friday morning.

Police said one person was seriously injured and another had moderate injuries in the two-car crash.

The New Zealand Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi said the road was closed between State Highway 1 at Pookeno and Koheroa Road at Mangatawhiri.

Drivers should avoid the area or expect delays.
