Woman arrested in connection with West Melbourne car crash where motorcyclist fled scene

WEST MELBOURNE, Florida. – A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident in which a motorcyclist was injured, the West Melbourne Police Department said.

The accident occurred early Sunday morning on US-192 near Dairy Road.

According to police, Rebekah Makenzie Tate was driving east on US-192 when she struck a motorcyclist and drove away.

“Instead of remaining at the scene or calling 911, Tate drove away with the motorcycle still attached to the front of her vehicle. Tate then drove her vehicle into the parking lot of a local business in an attempt to hide. At one point, Tate attempted to remove the motorcycle from under her vehicle,” the release reads.

The department said Tate was seen talking on the phone before she was picked up by a black sedan.

The man, 34, from West Melbourne, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Tate is currently being held in the Brevard County Jail without bail.
