Carol Ann Schug Villodas, formerly of Newtown and most recently of Easton, died Thursday, Aug. 15, in Fairfield County. She was 74 years old.

Born in Syracuse, NY, to the late Frederick K. Schug II and Betty Ann Schug, Carol attended St. Brigid Catholic School in Syracuse, Camillus Elementary School, and West Genesee Junior and Senior High Schools in Camillus. She earned a BA in history from SUNY Potsdam, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and then continued her postgraduate work and student teaching at Potsdam and the University of Maine.

Carol worked for many years as an advertising executive for The Western Union Company, then focused on raising her two children before returning to her career in education. For the past 18 years, she has been the secretary of the English and Science departments at Newtown High School. Outside of work, Carol enjoyed reading, writing, spending time with her children, organizing and laminating everything around her, giving good advice to good friends, and spending time with her cat. Her curiosity and love of learning continued throughout her life.

Admired and adored, she will be greatly missed by all who experienced the warmth that radiated from her kindness, gentleness, patience and generosity. Her sense of commitment, her fierce independence, her unyielding can-do spirit and her subtle sense of humor left an indelible impression on all who knew and loved her.

Carol was preceded in death by her father Frederick Schug in 1971, her mother Betty Ann Niles Schug in 2020, her sister Diana Katherine Schug in 2017, her brother Frederick K. Schug III in 2015, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Maxine, and her cat Lily.

She is survived by her husband Anthony, son Christian and daughter Lauren. She is also survived by her sister Sharon Monfort and cat Scout.

A Mass for her will be held on Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Church in Fairfield. A reception to celebrate her life will follow the service.
