SCOE to Offer “STOP THE BLEED” Training Sessions – The Vacaville Reporter

It could be a shooting in a shopping mall. Or a serious car accident. Or someone slipping off a stool and cutting their head open at home.

Are you prepared to help the victim or victims and stop the bleeding until the ambulance arrives?

The San Francisco Bay Area Urban Safety Initiative provided funding for free “STOP THE BLEED” trainings for the public and organizations in Solano and Napa counties.

Jennifer Leonard, a spokeswoman for the Solano County Office of Education, said three hands-on training sessions will be held in the coming days to help participants recognize and respond to life-threatening hemorrhages, a critical skill that can save lives before professional help arrives.

The first two meetings will be held on September 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and the third will be held on September 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All meetings will be held at the SCOE offices at 5100 Business Center Drive in Fairfield.

Participants will receive training from professionals at Raytom Group and a free STOP THE BLEED kit, “which will equip them with the tools and knowledge to act quickly in the event of an emergency at work, at home or in the community,” Leonard added in a prepared statement.

STOP THE BLEED is a national awareness campaign and call to action that trains bystanders to become immediate emergency responders. With the right training, individuals can control severe bleeding, greatly increasing their chances of survival in critical situations. The initiative aims to build “a more resilient community through education and preparedness,” Leonard noted.

She added that the Bay Area Urban Security Initiative enhances the region’s ability to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, natural disasters and other emergencies.

The practice came on the heels of a daytime shooting that injured 49ers rookie tight end Ricky Pearsall last week in San Francisco, as well as a fatal shooting Wednesday at Apalachee High in Winder, Georgia.

SCOE provides leadership, support, and financial oversight to charter schools and the Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield-Suisun, Travis, Vacaville, and Vallejo school districts, serving approximately 60,000 students.
