Lee and Evans sidelined

Collingwood AFLW defender Annie Lee and third-grade Magpie Imogen Evans are both expected to spend some time out of action as they recover from injuries.

Collingwood AFLW defender Annie Lee and third-grade Magpie Imogen Evans are both expected to spend some time out of action as they recover from injuries.

Lee, who was traded to the Carlton Pies at the end of 2023, will miss the remainder of the 2024 NAB AFLW season with an acute cartilage injury to her left knee sustained during the Week 1 match against the Sydney Swans.

The 21-year-old is expected to see a surgeon for a consultation in the coming days.

During practice Tuesday evening, Evans tore the biceps femoris muscle in her left leg.

The 20-year-old, who was originally drafted by Collingwood in 2022, returned to the AFLW Pies list in pre-season as a reserve player.

Evans is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

Following the news, the program welcomed Collingwood VFLW players Jordan Ivey and Sarah Ingram as replacement players for the team’s first home match at Victoria Park against Hawthorn on Saturday afternoon.

Jess Burger, General Manager of Women’s Football at Collingwood he said:

“We are disappointed for both Annie and Imogen, who made an immediate impact on the Club’s success on Friday night,” Burger said.

“Imogen will focus on her rehabilitation and work with our medical and high performance staff over the next month. We look forward to her regaining full fitness in the second half of the season.

“Although this has been incredibly difficult for Annie, we are all determined to ensure she has a long life and a successful career.

“While this is difficult news, we are confident that she will get through the next period of rehabilitation with the full support of our medical team, player group, staff and the entire Club.

“Given these injury list additions and availability, we have increased the number of Collingwood VFLW players Jordan Ivey and Sarah Ingram joining our squad as our available players have dropped below the mandatory 24.”
