SCOE to offer ‘STOP THE BLEED’ training sessions – The Vacaville Reporter

It could be a shooting at a shopping mall. Or a serious vehicle collision. Or someone slipping off a stool and cutting their head at home.

Are you prepared to help the victim or victims and stop the bleeding until paramedics arrive?

The Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative has provided funding to offer free “STOP THE BLEED” training to the public and organizations in Solano and Napa counties.

The hands-on trainings provide essential skills to help participants recognize and respond to life-threatening bleeding emergencies, a crucial skill that can save lives before professional help arrives, said Jennifer Leonard, a familiarity for the Solano County Office of Education, where three sessions will be held in the coming days.

The first two will be from 9 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm Sept. 11, while the third will be from 9 am to 1 pm Sept. 12, all at SCOE offices, 5100 Business Center Drive, Fairfield.

Participants will receive training from professionals at the Raytom Group and a complimentary STOP THE BLEED kit, “empowering them with the tools and knowledge to act quickly in an emergency at work, home or in the community,” Leonard added in a prepared statement.

Because spaces are limited, early registration is encouraged. To register, visit docs.google.com/forms.

STOP THE BLEED is a national awareness campaign and call-to-action that trains bystanders to become immediate responders during emergencies. With proper training, individuals can control severe bleeding, significantly increasing the chances of survival in critical situations. The initiative aims to build “a more resilient community through education and preparedness,” noted Leonard.

She said the Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative boosts the region’s ability to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and other emergencies.

The training comes on the heels of the daytime shooting and wounding of 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall last week in San Francisco and a deadly mass shooting Wednesday at Apalachee High in Winder, Ga.

SCOE provides leadership, support, and fiscal oversight for charter schools and Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield-Suisun, Travis, Vacaville, and Vallejo school districts, serving some 60,000 students.
