Southport man sentenced to prison after high speed chase

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man has been sentenced to prison for leading law enforcement on a high speed chase.

Julius Lashawn Brown, 33, of Southport, pled guilty to felony flee to elude arrest in Brunswick County Superior Court today. He was sentenced to a minimum of 68 months and a maximum of 92 months in prison.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop Brown in his vehicle for suspicion of drug offenses in front of the Walmart on Highway 211 in Southport.

Brown fled west for 13 miles at speeds over 120 miles per hour while forcing at least 80 cars off the road and illegally passing an ambulance that had its emergency lights activated.

A search of his vehicle by the deputies revealed cocaine scattered around Brown and a set of digital scales.
