Rassie challenges Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu in the Bok 10 jumper

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is set to earn his stripes as the Springboks’ future attacking link-up after coach Rassie Erasmus handed him the chance to start for the first time in the Rugby Championship test match against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday at 6.30am.

Erasmus fielded a Boks starting line-up that made 12 changes from the one that beat Portugal 64-21 in Bloemfontein last month, with RG Snyman forming a partnership with the returning Eben Etzebeth, while the other two were forward link Cobus Reinach and winger Kurt-Lee Arendse.

Stormtroopers yster Feinberg-Mngomezulu, or SFM as Bok fans have come to call him, was a wooden player in the Test in Portugal and replaced Mani Libbok in the number 10 shirt, with Erasmus making the bold decision to bench two-time world champion Handre Pollard.

Some may see SFM’s debut in just his fifth Test match as a changing of the guard, but Erasmus believes the debutant now gets another chance to step into the deep end as the Boks continue to expand their squad.

Erasmus says Daily Voice:”As we say in our camp: ‘We cannot look too far into the future and forget about the present, but we cannot focus only on the present’…

“I wouldn’t say it’s a changing of the guard, it’s giving the guys a chance. It’s (only) his fifth cap and we don’t want to go to the World Cup with a guy who’s only got eight or nine caps.

“They need to earn their stripes if this is to be a changing of the guard.”
